Explore Kim's Guk Bap

Tucked away at 5/70 Pinelands Rd in Sunnybank Hills, Kim's Guk Bap is the kind of cosy Korean eatery that quietly wins people over with its warm atmosphere and deeply comforting food. It’s especially inviting on colder days, when their signature gukbap-Korean rice soup-becomes the star of the table. The broths here are slow-cooked and full-bodied, delivering that rich, soulful depth that makes each spoonful feel satisfying and restorative. Alongside the soups, their menu features hearty hotpots and a range of Korean classics, with dishes like mala pork bone stew, chicken soup, stir-fried chicken, and seafood pancake often catching attention.

There’s a genuine, homely feel to the place, enhanced by friendly and attentive service, with the owner known for her welcoming hospitality that adds a personal touch to the dining experience. Even during busy evenings when the restaurant fills up quickly-especially on weekends-the staff maintain a smooth pace, with dishes arriving promptly despite the crowd. The popularity does come with a trade-off though, as parking nearby can be a bit challenging during peak hours.

In terms of flavour, the restaurant leans toward bold and warming profiles. The mala pork bone stew, for example, brings a noticeable level of spice even at milder settings, making it something to approach with care if you’re sensitive to heat. Some dishes, like the boiled pork slices and side dishes, are more straightforward, but still complement the overall meal. The focus remains clearly on delivering authentic, hearty Korean comfort food, with soups that many find particularly memorable and well-suited for anyone seeking a satisfying, warming dining experience.

This cosy spot is where comfort meets flavour. They specialises in gukbap (Korean rice soup) and hotpots, perfect for chilly nights or when you’re craving something hearty. The broths are rich, warming, and packed with that deep, slow cooked flavour that hits the soul. Our picks: mala pork bone stew pork soup chicken soup stir fried chicken seafood pancake

My new favourite Korean restaurant, the soups are so good in this winter weather. It truly is authentic guk bap tasting. The owner 'Lina' is very hospitable. Highly recommend this place

Tried Kim’s Guk Bap for dinner. It was nearly a full house on a Saturday night, extremely difficult to find parking in this area. We ordered the Mara pyeo jjim (pork bone stew) and suyuk (boiled pork slices). Even though we ordered just mild flavour for pork bone stew it was on the spicier side, so if you’re not good with spice I’d suggest just picking 1 chilli option. I thought the stew tasted ok, it reminded me of malatang or Chinese spicy hot pot, a little different from the original flavours I’ve had at Choi, which is down the road. The boiled pork slices were okay but nothing special. It would be nice if there’s more variety of ban chan available, the raw marinated onions and pickled daikon was just average. In saying that I thought the service was friendly and food came out quickly. Please not there’s a card surcharge.

Ordered mara pork bone jjim. It’s kind of mixer of korean and chinese shichan. I can say it’s more like spicy soul base. Very yum. Good balance with korean somag. Must try. And fired rice with cheese. Staffs were friendly and served quickly. Very satisfied. Will be back for other menus.

Recently opened and went to try out the venue. Not sure if it’s the same management as the previous business but it seems like it’s changed. Ordered the Pork Bone Soup and Suyuk (braised pork belly). Gam Ja Tang - Pork Bone soup medium size was $54. Roughly about 6-7 pieces of bone meat was found. Usually the traditional Pork Bone soup consists of pork back bone meat but this shop utlises a mix of it and pork shoulder bone and leg bone. There’s a lot more meat on the shoulder and leg bones. The broth is of clean ingredients and flavoursome with not much MSG taste. The general soup is served bland but rich in flavours of the soy bean base. 100% recommend using the grained roasted sesame seed powder, the more you use the better I found it. They also have salt on each table if you want to add. The Suyuk was served to perfection. Great size in each slice. Not much pork smell is apparent which means their cooking method is on spot. Served together with radish kimchi, once again the ingredients used are not over done and has that pure taste of flavours. Who seemed like the new owner of the venue is attention and provides great customer service. Seems like many of his family members assist in the shop. Not much interior upgrades have been done from the previous business but is a nice clean cosy environment for a restaurant. Looks like they take reservations and tables are limited. Will come back to try out their other dishes. From memory there’s about 5 or 6 total dishes available at this restaurant.

We were craving for comforting and hearty food and found this place! We ordered soup and pancake! Both are great flavour! This place is not too big so call to book in advance might be a great idea!

Staff were nice and friendly here. Not my favorite as the taste seems to be traditional Korean flavor? Not sure, but there are many Koreans here during weekend night time. Free on-site parking is a bonus.

Delicious Korean food hidden away in the suburbs and away from Sunnybank . Had the spicy Guk Bap and the Pajeon both of which are excellent and tasty. Delicious deep and full flavours of the soup with crispy well fried pajeon. Highly recommend to come and give it a go. Will come back to try their other food as well.
